Diagnose Your Pure Scooter – Error Codes, What They Mean & What to Do

Updated this week

If your scooter shows one of the error codes below, don’t worry — often these can often be fixed at home with a few simple checks.

Before you start:

  • Turn the scooter off and make sure it’s on a stable surface.

  • Check for loose or disconnected cables around the handlebar, stem, and charging port.

  • Restart the scooter after each step to see if the code has cleared.

🧾 Table of Error Codes (You Can Troubleshoot)

Error Code

Fault Description

What It Means

How to Fix It

E3

Handlebar Cable Connection

The cable inside the handlebar or stem has likely come slightly loose — often from vibrations during riding.

1️⃣ Turn the scooter off.
2️⃣ Loosen the handlebar stem clamp.
3️⃣ Locate the cable running from the display down into the stem.
4️⃣ Gently disconnect and reconnect it until it clicks firmly.
5️⃣ Tighten the clamp and restart the scooter.
✅ If the code clears, the connection was loose.

F1

Brake Lever Not Released

The scooter was turned on while the brake lever was pressed or sticking.

1️⃣ Release the brake lever fully.
2️⃣ Turn the scooter off and back on.
✅ If the code clears, there’s no fault.
⚠️ If it doesn’t, contact Pure — the lever may need inspection.

F2

Throttle Pressed at Start-up

The throttle was being pressed when the scooter was switched on. This is a built-in safety check to prevent accidental acceleration.

1️⃣ Turn the scooter off.
2️⃣ Let go of the throttle and check it springs back to its resting position.
3️⃣ Turn the scooter back on without pressing the throttle.
✅ If the error clears, the scooter is safe to use.
⚠️ If it doesn’t clear or the throttle feels sticky, contact us — it may require inspection.
⚠️ Important: A sticking throttle can affect safe stopping. Do not ride until this is checked.

E5

Battery Under voltage

Battery voltage is low — usually caused by a flat or uncharged battery.

🔌 Charge the scooter fully for up to 8 hours using the original Pure charger.
✅ The error should clear once charged.

E6

Battery Overvoltage (Temporary)

The voltage is slightly high, usually after long downhill braking following a full charge.

🕒 Leave the scooter powered on for a few minutes or ride gently on flat ground.
✅ The code will usually clear on its own.

E9

Motor Controller Over Temperature

The controller has overheated due to heavy use or warm conditions.

🧊 Turn off the scooter and allow it to cool fully before restarting.
✅ If it reappears often, check tyre pressure (36 psi) and avoid long hills.

E11

Motor Overheating

The motor has overheated — usually after long or steep hill climbs or prolonged high-power use.

1️⃣ Turn off the scooter.
2️⃣ Leave it to cool for at least one hour in a cool, dry place.
3️⃣ Restart the scooter.
✅ If the error disappears, you’re good to go.
⚠️ If it remains after cooling, contact Pure — the motor may need inspection.

💡 Helpful Tips

  • Make sure all connectors are firmly seated before every ride.

  • Keep tyres at 36 psi to reduce motor strain and overheating.

  • Use only official Pure Electric chargers for safe charging.

  • After long storage, charge the scooter for several hours to “wake up” the battery.
