Error Codes

Updated over a week ago

If your scooter shows one of the error codes below, don’t worry — often these can often be fixed at home with a few simple checks.

Before you start:

  • Turn the scooter off and make sure it’s on a stable surface.

  • Check for loose or disconnected cables around the handlebar, stem, and charging port.

  • Restart the scooter after each step to see if the code has cleared.

📋 Scooter Error Codes – Summary Table

Error Code

Fault Description

What It Means

Recommended Action

E1

Brake Error

Communication fault between the brake lever and control unit (VCU). May also affect regenerative braking.

🚫 Do not ride. Scooter must be inspected by a Pure repair centre.

F1

Brake Fault

Brake lever not returning to the ‘off’ position when the Scooter is turned on.

⚠️ The fault should clear once the brake lever is fully released and the scooter is switched off and then back on.

🔧 If the fault code persists after restarting, this indicates a potential sensor or cable issue. In this case, the scooter will need to be sent to Pure for further diagnosis and repair.

E2

Throttle Error

Throttle communication issue between throttle and control unit (VCU).

⚠️ Requires repair centre attention.

F2

Throttle Fault

Throttle not returning to the ‘off’ position when the

Scooter is turned on.

⚠️ The fault should clear once the Throttle is fully released and the scooter is switched off and then back on.

🔧 If the fault code persists after restarting, this indicates a potential sensor issue. In this case, the scooter will need to be sent to Pure for further diagnosis and repair.

⚠️ Important: A sticking throttle can affect safe stopping. Do not ride until this is checked.

E3

Communication Error

The error code E3 will be displayed when the communication data between MCU and VCU failed to transmit.

⚠️Do not perform this troubleshooting on Advance, McLarens or Escape Models.

If unsure please contact our team⚠️

1️⃣ Turn the scooter off.
2️⃣ Take out the four stem screws and gently remove the handlebars.
3️⃣ Locate the cable running from the display down into the stem.
4️⃣ Gently disconnect and reconnect it until it clicks firmly.
5️⃣ Insert and tighten the stem screws and restart the scooter.
✅ If the code clears, the connection was loose.

🔧 If the code doesn’t clear, Pure must inspect the scooter.

E4

Motor Overcurrent

Motor drawing excessive power due to internal short or connection damage. Scooter will shut down.

⚡ Requires motor and wiring inspection by Pure technicians.

E5

Battery Undervoltage

Battery voltage is low — usually caused by a flat or uncharged battery.

🔌 Charge the scooter fully for at least 10 hours using the original Pure charger.

✅ The error should clear once charged.

🔧 If the code doesn’t clear, Pure must inspect the scooter.

E6

Battery Overvoltage

Battery voltage too high (e.g. following long downhill regenerative braking). If persistent, could indicate Motor Control Unit (MCU) or charger fault.

⚠️ In this case the error should clear after a while when the Scooter is run on flat or uphill conditions.

🔧 If the code doesn’t clear, Pure must inspect the scooter.

E7

Motor Hall Sensor Error

Motor sensor failure or damaged motor cable. Causes jerky or noisy motor performance.

🛠️ Repair centre to test and replace affected component.

E9

Motor Controller Over Temperature

The MCU temperature is over 105°c.

Potential causes:

The Scooter was driven for too long or too hard in high ambient temperatures.

🧊 The error should be cleared once the unit has been able to cool down for at least one hour.

🔧 If the code doesn’t clear, Pure must inspect the scooter.

E11

Motor Overheating

The Motor temperature exceeds 125°c.

Potential causes:

The Scooter was driven for too long or too hard in high ambient temperatures.

🧊 The error should be cleared once the unit has been able to cool down for at least one hour.

🔧 If the code doesn’t clear, Pure must inspect the scooter.

E13

Battery Communication Error

Problem with the communication between the MCU and

the Battery.

Note that this can also present as the battery appearing to charge but the scooter remaining unable to be

switched on.

🛠️ Repair centre to test and replace affected component.

💡 Helpful Tips

  • Make sure all connectors are firmly seated before every ride.

  • Keep tyres at 36 psi to reduce motor strain and overheating.

  • Use only official Pure Electric chargers for safe charging.

  • After long storage, charge the scooter for 6-10 hours to “wake up” the battery.
